Writing Update

It’s been a while, so I thought I’d throw an update on my writing up. I’m still going to both writing groups, one meets once a month on a Thursday and the other is weekly (recently moved to Tuesday). Sadly, the recent Thursday meetup for October, which was going to be a horror-themed session, was canceled. I’m also only going to share the highlights. Part of what these sessions are for is to just write without spending too much time fiddling with and rewriting things, so sometimes it doesn’t come out great. That’s okay.

Haikus

We’ve had a couple of sessions writing Haikus which has been quite fun. Here are a few of my favorites I’ve written recently.

Passing memories
Burried beneath whispered snow
Lost in Winter's dream

When the growing ends
Green fades to brown and quiet dies
Ground bears Fall's bounty

The old clouds now sleep
Morning frost forgets its name
The first warm wind blows

Prompts

There have also been a few prompts that I enjoyed the results of.

Prompts: A journal or diary that includes the following information: Geographic location, alone or group, goal.

Expedition

Prompt: A scene where someone looks at their love (a person or thing, meeting for the first time or years into romance).

Yuki-Onna

Prompt: A poem featuring an element (wind/fire/water/etc.) using lyrical techniques of rhythm and repetition.

The coals are burning.
Burn through to the end
Burn fire, burn cinders, burn ash.
The flame is my friend.
A great mountain waits.
My great fire burns bright
To the sky, burn, and further
Burn into the night.

Prompt: Write using a holiday (I chose Halloween).

Setting sun and rising moon
Lurking fog and restless wind
Arise,
walkers, stalkers, and forgotten phantoms.
Arise,
lanterns grim and grinning.

High rides the cavalry of far-off misty clouds,
Thier riders dead, their horses cold.
Follow them into the dark,
Pass beyond the reach of light,
Listen now to the call of night.
Tonight, we are the dead no more.

Short Stories

The weekly meetup is where I primarily work on short stories. I’ve made some big revisions to a couple of older ones and written first drafts for a few new ones. You’ll have to stay tuned for more on those; they’re not ready for sharing here!
