End of Year & Top 100 (2025)

End of Year

This was a long year for me, spending most of my time working on Winds of the North, editing the text (and it’s quite a lot of text) then rebuilding the graphics and layout. I’ve recently been working on the cover in hopes that I can survive without hiring someone. So, while it’s almost done (and will need some intensive checking when I order a proof copy), I didn’t quite finish this year. Close!

In other news, I put up The Unseen World for deal of the day over at DriveThruRPG, which resulted in a lot of bonus sales! It’s also reached the incredible Platinum Best Seller, far more than I expected. I feel bad for not having anything else to release in the past 3 years, but next year!

I’ve still been writing, though life has gotten in the way of my weekly group. But Winds of the North has taken up so much of my focus, I haven’t put as much time into my other writing this year.

Coming Up

Winds of the North should be wrapping up early next year. Hard to say for now if it’s releasing Q1 or 2, but probably somewhere in there. Cost is yet to be determined (depends on the cost in materials). Once it’s finally out there, I’ll have so many things I can choose from for my next project, and thankfully, they’re all way smaller!

Last year’s list felt pretty good, and there were fewer games hanging out at the bottom just because I needed 100 games. And this was a good year for us with new games. We played more new releases than in previous years, but also, our new-to-us games from previous years definitely created a lot of new favorites.

I wish I had a little more time to squeeze in some plays before doing the list, but time is always short (and in some cases, motivation to play). For me, it’s always important to rank the games based on how I feel playing them, not how I think I’ll enjoy it with more plays, so a few games might be lower just from limited plays.

Making the list this year was unexpectedly difficult. I thought it’d be easier, and the top 60 or 70 were easier, but there were a lot of games dropping for one reason or another, resulting in unexpected games suddenly climbing back up, and it suddenly felt wrong. After a lot of fiddling around, I think I’m happy with it. My #100 always feels like a weird “special guest” slot of something that maybe shouldn’t be in the top 100 but just squeaks in. I also tried to take more time writing better blurbs for the entries; I felt like they were too short last year. But let’s see how this year turned out!
