It’s that time of year, when horror takes over everything. This year, to continue trying out Patreon, I’m uploading something each week, with a mix of games and fiction. This week, it’s an upcoming solo paranormal journaling RPG, Encounters.
Encounters is meant to be a good entry point into solo RPGs and journaling games. It plays very quickly, 20–30 minutes, as you create and tell a short story about your character’s paranormal encounter. Your encounter could be with a monster, aliens, ghosts, or something beyond description. You might witness occult activities or a murder, be abducted, or be chased across town by an unknown creature.
There are some basic tools for setting the scene and adding a few details, but it’s easy for you to keep it light and simple or expand on it as you want. There are also optional rules to introduce complexity in the form of skills, combat, stats, and items. Without them, it’s a straightforward journaling game.
